A (Truly) Modest Proposal

In Johnathan Swift's A Modest Proposal, Swift satirically suggests that the perfect solution to world hunger and overpopulation is to sell and eat babies. Obviously, this is a terrible suggestion for both ethical and practical purposes, but Swift brings up a good point, world hunger is a serious, and hard to fix problem. It could be solved through a massive collaborative effort, but it would be a long and drawn out planning progress. So what can we do?  It's not an easy question to answer. If we start by looking at the larger picture, the problem is too overwhelming.  Personally, I think it's important to begin within our communities. If we break up the problem into more manageable chunks, we might all be able to accomplish a little more. More people can be fed, and less people will be hungry. Furthermore, if everyone goes and buys food to donate to food banks, it can help to stimulate the economy (if done in large enough amounts)  and support local businesses. In other words, helping to fight hunger is a win-win situation. Of course the reality of the situation is not as simple, and making an impact on the problem would take a far  more work and volunteers than what I have described, but If everyone makes an attempt to help, I think we could all help a lot of people.
